Grace Church Senior Pastor Job Description
The Senior Pastor must be an ordained minister with God-given spiritual gifts to serve the church and surrounding community by providing Biblical, spiritual, pastoral and visionary leadership within the framework of the Church’s overall vision, mission, and purpose. He will be responsible for promoting the spiritual health, growth, and well-being of the congregation through preaching, teaching, prayer, visitation, and the administration of the sacraments.
Reports to: Consistory of Grace Church Lansing
Responsibilities:
Preaching & Worship Leadership
Be the primary communicator and preaching pastor to the congregation
Preach soundly based on the Word of God
Develop topics for preaching and create a preaching schedule
Facilitate teaching environments that equip the congregation in the discipleship to Jesus Christ
Administer the sacraments (Communion & Baptism) at designated times
Help plan and lead weekly worship services
Shepherd the congregation through the annual rhythms of the church calendar including Lent, Holy Week, Pentecost, and Advent.
Administrative Leadership
Lead and direct church staff and ministry leaders, providing vision, direction, support, and care
Prepare and moderate meetings with Consistory, Staff, Elders and Congregation
Pastoral Care
Intercede for the congregation in fervent prayer
Care for members of the congregation through thoughtful communication
Make routine home or hospital visits to the sick along with Elders and Deacons
Provide pastoral counseling and crisis intervention
Evangelism & Outreach
Represent Grace Church Lansing at events in the broader community
Work with Consistory to build relationships within our community and bring people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ through outreach activities
Qualifications
A devout man of God with Godly character and heart
A Master of Divinity is preferred, but will consider other advanced education (Bachelors) in a related field
Ordained minister or a qualified candidate willing to complete competencies and leadership development in the Kingdom Network
Excellent communication skills with a love for communicating God’s Word through preaching and teaching.
Possess strong pastoral care skills including confidentiality, privacy, and spiritual counsel
Understand and have a heart for multicultural and multi-generational ministry
